Power King Exhibition Round 2

Our 2nd round Power King Exhibition at the All Style Sweet 16 shaped up nicely. We had a good combination of new school vs old school. In the end Fumi ended up with the belt, favoring clean, shorter sets, to the younger bucks with long difficult rounds. Props to Matt, James, and defending champ Khang for holding it down though. Peep the footage below:

All Style Sweet 16 Recap

So the first All Style Sweet 16 was an interesting experiment. Turn out was relatively low, but we expected that for a first time Friday event. With that being said, the dancers were AMAZING!!!

First round included some hype battles. Ben Vo, one of our favorites had a clean first round, but was not chosen by the judges to advance. Instead they chose Nicholas, a wild card or sorts with a New Jack Swing style. Needless to say, he was so much fun to watch, and had one of the best rounds of his night in this initial battle. Darylle vs Jess2sick was the starting battle, and did not disappoint. Both girls represented with a hip hop style, Jess coming away with the edge. Other highlights for the first round included Chris Nauta’s krumping, Andy Tiger Claw, Maho the Speck dancing her heart out, K-Yool, Knowbody, and Maezing coming out strong.

Throughout the night, dancers who exhibited a diversity of styles tended to make it further, but also dancers who stuck to their guns, and adjusted to the music also did well. Maezing and Knowbody matched up in the finals, it was one of the best match ups of the battle. In the end, Maezing came away with the win, with Knowboy in second. Also notable, Kuni Groovy Boogie also showed a diversity of styles, and killed it with the funk styles, came away with 3rd place followed by Nicholas in 4th.

On a side note, our second power king exhibition included some raw talent. James Cha and Matt Wong represented the new school, and threw some amazing initial rounds, but faltered in the second half. Khang, the defending champion, showed some weakness and did not stay as clean as his championship run. In the end, Fumi stuck to his guns, stayed clean, and came away with the win.

Northwest Sweet 16 Recap

All right folks here we go.

First off, thank you to everyone who supported this weekend. It meant a lot to me and Andrew Oledan for you to be there. Shout out to Lars Soulrane Sverre for laying down the beats and simply killin it all night long. For the all styles, it really doesn’t get any better than Huy Pham Computer Fam. Playing some cuts, but also some challenge songs. “I’m gonna challenge you”, what a dork. Big thanks to all of our judges for making tough calls all night long. Hieu Pham, Marcus Sharpe, Alfredo Free, Byron Jay Donaldson, and Nolan for the b-boys, and Aj Heavyhittaz, Maezing Calinisan, Nathan Tic Tock Washington, Brandon Knowbody Greathouse, and Donna DonnaMation Oefinger.

WIthout a doubt, this was the best Sweet 16 we have ever had. Almost every battle was hype or had some memorable moment. Mathieu Lost Child with the smooth style, his first battle against John Riddelz was a nice battle of unique get downs. Ash Cornette had some killer rounds, but when does he not? Serg vs Philip Kim round 1 was also another incredibly sick match up. Jalen Testerman Killed it in his first time at the Sweet 16, and Beany GerardoandBrooke Guzman definitely showed the NW how serious he was. Last but not least Boxcutta putting it down with incredibly intricate footwork sets all night long, and Thesis simply murdering the beats and putting down his usual crazy moves.
